Leo superbus

This is Jean's October challenge subject. The monochrome photo was supplied and we had to interpret the colours as we saw fit. This was a very interesting and difficult exercise and this is my third attempt. I can now see that the beard has not been sufficiently defined at its extremity and looks like a water slide.

New Bailey

This is my painting of Jean's dog, Bailey, after I had fiddled around too much with it, though the photo makes it out to be darker than it actually is. The fur around the mouth looks wet and authentic, I think, and on the whole I am pleased with the muzzle area.
These challenges of Jean's are really encouraging me to paint and I am learning how to handle the paint with greater skill.
I love painting.

On a technical note to myself, I resized this image down to 350 pixels so I must compare it with earlier photos to see if I have chosen the right size to post to this blog.
I have now viewed the published post and realise that the photo quality is quite poor so I won't be using the same size again.

I have reposted this photo in its original resolution.
